The Robertson County History Museum opened to the public on January 7, 1993, and is currently located in the “Old Post Office” Building located in the Historic Downtown District of Springfield.
Vision & Mission
The chief purpose of the Museum is to collect and preserve items of historical importance to Robertson County, Tennessee. Other objectives are: to provide educational and entertaining exhibits, programs and activities for its citizens of all ages; to provide a learning center on Robertson County History for students in area schools; to provide a source for research in cooperation with Gorham-MacBane Public Library, Robertson County Archives, Robertson County Court House and Springfield City Hall; to provide an outlet for publications of the Robertson County Historical Society.

Driving Directions
The Robertson County History Museum is located in the former U.S. Post Office Building at 124 6th Avenue West, just off the Court Square, in Springfield, Tennessee.
Directions from Highway 41 (Memorial Boulevard)
Take Highway 41 (Memorial Boulevard) to Springfield. At red light #8, turn onto Highway 49 West (5th Avenue) toward the Court Square. Go past the Court House and turn left at the 4-way stop on Locust Street. Go one block to the museum, located on the left at the corner of 6th Avenue and Locust.
Directions from Interstate 65 (I-65)
Exit 98 (Millersville/Springfield)
- Turn left off the exit ramp and go south for 0.4 miles.
- Turn right on the ramp at the sign reading US-41 North.
- Travel northwest for approximately 14 miles (41N will become Memorial Boulevard) to red light #8 (5th Avenue).
- Turn left on Highway 49 West (5th Avenue) to the Court Square.
- Go past the Court House and turn left at the 4-way stop on Locust Street.
- Go one block to the museum on the left at the corner of 6th Avenue and Locust.
Directions from Interstate 65 (I-65)
Exit 112 (Gallatin/Cross Plains)
- Exit onto Hwy 25 and head west.
- Continue west for approximately 8 miles until you reach the stop sign at the Hwy 25/Hwy 49 intersection.
- Go southwest on Hwy 49 (straight ahead) for approximately 5 miles to the intersection of Hwy 49 and Hwy 41 at red light #8.
- Continue straight across Hwy 41 (Memorial Blvd.) to the Court Square.
- Go past the Court House and turn left at the 4-way stop on Locust Street.
- Go one block to the museum on the left at the corner of 6th Avenue and Locust.
Directions from Interstate 24 (I-24)
Exit 35 (Springfield/Joelton)
- Exit onto Hwy 431 and head north for 13.9 miles.
- Turn left onto Hwy 41 (Memorial Blvd.) and proceed to red light #8 (5th Avenue).
- Turn left on Highway 49 West (5th Avenue) to the Court Square.
- Go past the Court House and turn left at the 4-way stop on Locust Street.
- Go one block to the museum on the left at the corner of 6th Avenue and Locust.
Important Note
Due to ongoing construction on I-65 in Robertson County, travelers may experience delays. Check current traffic conditions before planning your visit for the most efficient route.
- I-65 Southbound: Between mile markers 120 and 119, construction work has resulted in the closure of the outside shoulder, 24 hours daily. This is expected to continue until May 31, 2026.
- I-65 Both Directions: At mile marker 121, utility work has led to no outside shoulder on weekdays. This is anticipated to be completed by April 30, 2025.
